The making of “Kingslayer”
Kingslayer is as though a Traditional/Medieval bard met with a modern, Epic Film Soundtrack engineer and they created musical fusion. This was surprisingly, to myself at the time, one of the fastest and most natural feeling songs I had ever composed.
I remember coming up with these very detailed guitar pieces and as I continued to play them, the plot for this song thickened and called out to me. Kingslayer! The storyline, lyrics and melodies all came to me in a rapid burst of creative explosions, this creative process ensued for around 2 hours in February of 2019.
I then performed this song live out busking in the streets as well as at venues and events across QLD and NSW for about 6-7 months. I do this instead of just jumping in and recording songs that I feel a closer connection with sometimes because I think it’s better to learn all of the tiny vocal details and how their tones intricately mix with the guitars for a more natural end result. Finally “Kingslayer” was recorded in September of 2019 and sent away to Rohan Parry at MMAD Studios in months to come.
Rohan Parry did an incredible job on the mix and master with this one, bringing this Atmospheric Soundtrack cross Bard’s Tale to life. Rohan stated that he was “impressed with it’s build to crescendo” and said “the sparsity of instrumentation gives this song powerful light and shade”. Going back in on some production, he capitalized on the percussion and strings, this song became more and more epic and inspirational.
Kingslayer was officially released on all major platforms on November 11 2020.
